Norpro Sauce Master Review

I'm wondering why it never occurred to anyone else to simply put a 9x13 under their sauce master to collect the sauce.I use one of my baking pans and it holds plenty of strawberry puree for jam.It pours well into a measuring cup without a mess.So no, there isn't a problem with design here.
Also, my sister in law has another company's similar product and complains that in making sauces her's splatters off the screen very badly.Mine is perfectly clean as the sauce guard catches all of it.There is at times a problem with the discard backing up and falling into the sauce but it only happens when my children are running the machine and not paying attention.An adult should have no problem getting it to work without incident.

This is more or less what I wanted.Cheap, works well, easy to clean up.
My negative is the plastic container that holds my morning orange juice and my afternoon lime juicy.The plastic bowl is truly inexpensive.It scarred immediately and never looks new after the first use.Perhaps it was the accidity from the first orange juice.I have no idea.But the plastic is no longer smooth to the touch, and it looks dirty after I wash it.I do not have a dishwasher, so it gets a hand wash and rinse.Machine works well though, and I would buy another one if it lasts one year.

Pros:
- Powerful juicer
- Comes with its own cleaning tools

Cons:
- Many parts that needs to be cleaned each time you use it
- Assembly is a bit cumbersome
- Loud

Juicers would be more practical if you have to make a lot of juice each time you use it. Just need to store the juice in the ref. Otherwise, if you only need to make a couple of glasses, all the hassle maybe not worth it. You have to assemble the equipment, then you have to clean it and store it back to its place in the shelves. Some parts of this juicer are also sharp and you must be careful handling them.

Recommended: Yes (with some trepidation)

Best Citrus Juicer Review

I ordered the RA Chand citrus juicer in late January 2009 for home use. Despite being advertised as having been designed for commercial use, it lasted less than four months under light (less than once a day) home use. During this period, I never squeezed anything harder than a juice orange. And in early May 2009 the handle/lever simply cracked in two. It was gone after less than four months and close to $200 expended (with shipping/tax). Whatever metal was used to fabricate the lever/handle, it was a shoddy composite because it cracked just like a piece of brittle plastic.

At the time I ordered this product, I was under the misunderstanding that it was made in the USA. While this was my error, I had had similar problems with Chinese made home grade juicers which I had bought for a quarter the price. (They, ironically, had each lasted six to eighteen months under similar usage before breaking.) The RA Chand juicer is made in Mexico, not the USA, and the quality that I experienced unfortunately lived up to my worst expectations.

If you want a juicer that looks sharp and don't expect to ever use it more than once a month, this product might be just right for you. But stay away if you want something you can actually use on a daily basis at home, much less in a commercial setting. This product is bad news.

Dr. Weil 9804 The Healthy Kitchen Stainless-Steel 80-Watt Juicer with Stainless-Steel Cup Review

After a lot of research I bought the Weil and the Tribest Citristar knowing one was getting returned.This is a comparison of both.
The Weil is 30 watts stronger, I'll give it that.It's much harder to stop the Weil than the Citristar with your hand but both motors are more than capable of the job.It is also a bit better looking, being steel on the outside vs. plastic.Cons are:

1. Not very big at base, therefore tends to wobble just a bit at times. Tribest has much larger base and is far sturdier.

2. The reemer isn't wide enough so instead of just pressing down you have to kind of squeeze the sides into it to extract all the juice.Also, half the ridges on the reemer or smooth and curved instead of coming to a point.This prohibits it from really tearing into the flesh of the fruit and extracting all the juice.I compared both with the same amount of oranges and the citristar extracted about 10% more juice than the Weil.

3.The reemer on the citristar is much sturdier due to the shaft it sits on being twice as big as the Weil.

Both were comparable in noise level in that the Citristar is slightly louder but the Weil has a much higher pitched squeel to it that I thought was a bit irritating.Cleanup for both was very easing.Both seemed to have the same pulp content in the juice.Generally, I feel the Citristar is a better all around juicer.The Weil seems more like asthetics may have been the top priority.Weil introduced this juicer with a whole lineup of kitchen appliances instead of focusing on just this product.It's advertised as being Swiss.I don't quite see it.Overall, it's a decent juicer but for the current price of $80 to $100 either get the Citristar or step up to the Breville Citrus Press.

Vita-Mix 1300 TurboBlend 4500 Review

I have owned the Vita-Mix Super 5000 since 1997, and I love it. I can grind flour, make juice, soup, ice cream (the fruit smoothies I make with this are to die for)--in short, every kind of food processing you can imagine. This baby is built to last and has a 7-year warranty.

In 2004, a couple weeks after the 7 years were up, I was very upset when it broke down. I thought, "Isn't that just the way these things tend to go with warranties?" I searched for Vita-Mix on the web (the URL is their name, and there is a link on this page, to them, too). I clicked on the button for service, got their 800 number, and called them at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time, and they were there. The service rep was friendly and knowledgeable. She asked me to describe in detail the symptoms of my ailing Vita-Mix. She then said, when I asked about it, that even though I was past the window period to do so, the company would still allow me to buy a three-year extended warranty for $120. I jumped at that, and found out that I could use it to cover the parts (and shipping) to fix the problem. She said I needed an "assembly piece" that sold for $75 without a warranty, a "drive socket" worth $12.00 and the shipping of $9.95 would be no charge to me. She said she was including a small wrench and instructions and I can fix it myself. So right off the bat I used most of the $120 to fix my first problem.

I've never seen anything like this kind of service. When our tabletop water distiller broke, we had to send it in for warrantied repair, which cost $50 shipping (we paid), and weeks to get back. I think shipping the Vita-Mix to the company might have cost nearly that much, so I was delighted to have this option of getting the parts in 10 days to fix it myself and have my beloved Vita-Mix back working within a week and a half.

If you are ever in the market for a food processor that is professional quality that works great with amazing customer service, this is it. The price is very competitive for what you get, and the product itself is fabulous. (Only one tiny little caveat--which is true for =any= blender--wear earplugs when you do the very high speeds or you could hurt your ears.)

Update March 23, 2009: I've owned the Vita-Mix 12 years now, and I still love it! See my comment to this review with today's date which contains information on my experiences with the sales personnel of the Vita-Mix company today.

I bought the 2 for 1 deal and have had the juicer just over a month.I juice for my husband and myself once a day.We are very impressed at how quiet it is and how much juice we get out of carrots.Our last juicer sounded like a remote control airplane and would not juice a carrot.We usually juice 1 apple, 1 pear, a few carrots, 2-3 stalks of celery, and a tiny piece of ginger.That's enough for two large glasses of juice so even though we buy organic it is not so expensive.I also found that cutting the core out of a tomato and then stuffing it with wheat grass gets the most juice for wheat grass.The clean up is easy, I do it by hand and it takes 5 minutes.It has never leaked on the counter although I've never tried to juice enough for an army either.I think for what I want this juicer for it's a 5 star.

This product came fully assembled, just fill with water and put in your fruit and hit the button. The quality of the unit seems very heavy duty, doesn't make too much noise and doesn't smell strong of ozone. I just put it on top of our sink, fill up, use the clean button, pull the drain plug and quick rinse and put it away.

I've washed fruits and veggies and seems to work very well. It's impossible to really know if it kills 98% of the junk on the produce, but they do look much cleaner and i've noticed they last longer in the frig after washing. So hopefully it's doing what they claim, i certainly feel better about eating the produce after it's washed.

I would certainly purchase it again if needed.

Waring Citrus Juice Attachment Review

This is a great attachment. Works well and is easy to clean, which makes quick work in the morning. Even if you do not think you will use it, get it anyway when you get your waring juicer. Thats what we did and it sat around for 3 or 4 months, then one day we decided to try it. Fresh oarnge juice in the morning is the best. If you get a case of organic oarnges from a local health food shop, they will often give you a case discount. Keeps some of the pulp, although filters out seeds. We prefer this, but if you like your oarnge juice with no pulp then you will probably want to filter it.

We used this juicer for a year.It does take a surprisingly strong arm to operate, considering all that heavy metal and long lever. It was not all that easy to clean.And the lever comes down off center, the hinges get locked, and eventually broke leaving a very heavy, not repairable piece of metal for the trash.We've had 19.99 electric models that lasted longer, made better juice, and were easier to clean - and that's what I'm cruising Amazon for today.

This juicer is one of the worst juicers I've ever used.Don't be fooled by the claims made during the infomercial.This juicer barely has the ability to shred the produce fed into it, much less efficiently extract the any juice from the pulp.Worst of all, it is actually dangerous to use.It all comes down to poor design.

The primary flaw with this juicer is that the feed tube directs its contents into the center of the shredding blade where it spins the slowest. To make matters worse, the teeth at the center of the shredding blade are arranged in the same circular path.This tooth arrangement fails to generate any shredding action between the blades, and only grinds circular groves in the produce.Thus, the produce tends feed very slowly, or actually stalls in the grind tube.This slowed feeding action also seems to cause the centrifuge basket to slow down, and clog up.I'm not exactly sure why this happens, but I suspect it may have something to do with the produce binding between the bottom edge of the feed tube and the center of the shredding blade.Obviously, once the centrifuge basket gets clogged, less juice is extracted, the pulp is wetter, and more juice ends up in the pulp receptacle.

The second flaw is that the pulp is only discharged into the pulp receptacle from one side of the shredding /centrifuge chamber.This tends to cause the pulp to linger in the centrifuge basket, and compounds the clogging problem. Once the centrifuge basket gets clogged, the pulp begins to stick to the inside of the shredding /centrifuge chamber, and eventually seems to make its way into the juice catch basin.

The third flaw is that juice catch basin is flat on the bottom, and does not drain well.Pulp particles in the juice tend to settle on the bottom the juice catch basin, and eventually may stop the juice from draining.When this occurs, juice will flow over the inside lip of the juice catch basin, and stream down the motor housing.Wait; it gets worse!Since the motor's cooling vents are on the sides of the motor housing directly below the juice catch basin, juice escaping from the juice catch basin tends to flow into the motor housing through the cooling vents creating an electrical hazard.

Not flaws, but worth mentioning:
When the juice catch basin is installed, and the shredding blade spun onto the drive shaft before the centrifuge basket is installed, it will be very difficult to uninstall the shredding blade because there is no way to stop the drive shaft from rotating.

Vitamix Turbo Blend 4500 Countertop Blender with 2 HP Motor Review

I have had my Vitamix 5000 for 5 and 1/2 years and could not be happier with it. Not only does it blend full frozen bananas (see other review), the powerful motor can do a lot more.

We use our Vitamix primarily for smoothies and milkshakes, and have learned that as long as there is some liquid in the container with the ice cubes and frozen bananas it will blend all into a smooth drink with ease.

The machine is loud for sure, not something you can hold conversation over, but we've noted that it blends so quickly, that the moments it takes to liquify are over before we've forgotten what we would have said anyway.

Clean up is also amazing with the Vitamix. As the Vitamix reps demonstrate, all we've done to clean it up after is wipe down any smoothie residue on the outside of the spout, fill container 1/3-ish of the way up with warm/hot water and a drip of soap, then blend on high for 30-ish seconds. Every month or so I DO wash a bit more thouroughly with maybe a drip of bleach and a scrub brush. One thing to consider though, is the longer you leave your container dirty the harder it will be to clean after. If you just rinse right away, you're golden.

I cannot rave more highly about this machine. I'm sure that the multiple hundred dollar price tag is a turn off to most if not all, but consider the time saved as well as more options for healthy beverage alternatives! We've loved our Vitamix and you will too!

Waring PJE401 Juice Extractor, Quite White and Stainless Steel Review

I bought this machine for its power and brand-name quality. It is powerfull indeed and is sturdy in construction. With its centrifugal approach to extracting juices, the machine really gets the juice out until the last drop. I really liked it until I tried putting watermelon in it: the machine grinded the juice shreder plate inside. No more quality and effortless juicing after that. Had the machine replaced thinking it was just the particular unit I had purchased, but it happened again. So, I was left with having to purchase a replacement plate from the manufacturer. This third time I tried grapes, and whamo!...for the third time the machine ruined its plate. At $40.00 a piece it is no joke having to replace the plate a couple of times, plus it is not a good feeling when you don't know how the machine will react when certain fruits are juiced. After these three incidents, I only use it to extract juices from carrots, apples, and celery...no more grapes or watermelon...in all the machine will do a good job so long it does not encounter a seed in the fruit, else say bye-bye to the plate.

Metrokane L Press Juicer, Gray Handles Review

This is a citrus press, it presses all the pulp into a mashed mass in the bottom of your fruit half. It will not get all the juice out.I tried a dozen lemons on it and was able to take the pressed lemon half and using a bowl reamer get half again as much juice out of the lemon.This is a terrible product, the old-fashioned way is best even if it hurts your hand (bowl reamer).This will not save you any time and will waste 1/3 of your fruit (unless you process the fruit thru a reamer too!). Of course, I lost the $14 I paid for shipping/handling (plus more to ship it back) even after all the research I did.I hope someone learns from this.

Handle with care or it will bite you, fall over something or spill juice over other things on the kitchen counter. If the user lets the lever go back on its own it will do so with such momentum that the juicer itself will fall back. Poor design warranties that that will happen every time you stop using both hands simultanously. Worse. If the user tries to stop the falling back and grabs the juicer by the column, the pressing cover will pinch the grabbing hand and make it bleed. Otherwise, it looks nice and gets the juice out citric fruits. As for the annoying tendency to fall, placing a wedge in the back of the thing may be helpful.

2 years after my original review the juicer is still working well. You will need a little more muscle to juice carrots if carrots are hard but the work is worth the juice you receive.

This is a well made juicer, it tears through carrots and beets without a great deal of effort. It's not too difficult to clean, although cleaning it out isn't fun either. The basket that strains the juice clogs and must be brushed clean. I have tried the following produce with great success: carrots, beets, ginger, celery, apples and spinach. That's all - because that's all I really enjoy making regularly. I cannot say the pulp is extremely dry, but I use some of that pulp for baking and some for making vegetable stock for my soups and some goes straight to composting my herbs - so I cannot complain.

After unsuccessfully trying to reach the warranty department (literally a week's effort, numeours phone calls (some phone numbers were disconnected, one number was already used by another business - auto repair of sorts), I found out that Moline went out of business about five years ago. The claim to 15 years warranty is, therefore, FALSE. I have contacted Amazon and asked them to correct this item description. It's a shame that a seller allowed this to happen.

Let me start by saying that this juicer makes excellent juice and is a lot easier to use than the 25-year old Big OJ juicer that I was using.I squeeze oranges and tangerines for my woman and I each night.So I use the juicer every day and the better design of this juicer has led me to squeeze more fruit than before.

The big lever drives the top piston onto the fruit and with one motion an orange or tangerine half gets well squeezed leaving little juice left in the pulp.

But there are a few areas that quickly stand out as being parts that could be easily improved.Let me add here that I am a quality professional and I often see potential improvements in products that others don't seem to mind or notice--until it is pointed out to them.Nevertheless here are some things that hold this back from being a great product.The actual lever arm can wobble from side to side.A small change in the design and manufacturing would make the arm totally stable and probably even more effective.The bottom holder or drain where the fruit is placed has two pieces, one is shaped like a drain and the other is convex to match the shape of the plunger that squeezes the fruit.And these two pieces, the drain and the convex holder are loosely held together.At times the convex holder sticks to the fruit and is pulled up and away from the drain.The tolerance of the two parts has to be lessened and some kind of clicking mechanism needs to be put in here to keep the two in place.Once again I do not think this is a big deal, and a small change could solve the problem.

The drain also does not click onto the base and the paint shows some chipping.This is not a very high quality item because of these small details even though it does get the job done.

The final comment is that for most households this size is probably too big.I keep it under a counter and I have been told that I am the only one who will be bringing it up from under the counter to the top of the counter.

The product is good and works but a few small improvements could make this a great product.

Olympus Extra Large Commercial Juice Press, Black Review

I own a medium sized Ra Chand juicer, the popular model J210. Although the fit and finish of the Ra Chand juicer is somewhat crude, it makes up for it in brute strength and straightforward design. It works excellent for limes, lemons, and small to medium sized oranges and it will last a lifetime, even with daily use. The problem with the J210 is that it does not juice large oranges and grapefruits very well. I needed a larger juicer because I have a grapefruit tree and an orange tree that produce larger than average fruit. I decided against the Ra Chand J500 because they were more expensive than the OrangeX juicer, and the reviews of the OrangeX juicer were for the most part favorable--most of the complaints were for paint chips (doesn't appear to be a problem here) and slow delivery (also not a problem). I was disappointed when my OrangeX large commercial juicer arrived because the top cone and lower "bowl" assembly of the juicer, where the fruit fits, is no larger than the Ra Chand medium sized J210 juicer. In fact, it appears to be smaller than the Ra Chand medium sized juicer. Also, they are thin stamped stainless steel where on the Ra Chand juicer they are polished cast aluminum. That being said, the OrangeX juicer is heavy duty and fairly well built. I have no doubt it will work fine for limes, lemons, and small to medium oranges, and that it too will last a lifetime. However, now I have two juicers that will do the same thing and I still have no juicer for larger grapefruits, unless I settle for squeezing some of the grapefruit and having the edge squirt all over the edge. In retrospect, I wish I had looked at the Ra Chand J500 and, given that it is truly larger than the J210, spent the extra $50 to get something that would not only work for larger fruit, but medium and smaller fruit as well.

Jack LaLanne Power Juicer Pro Review

Ok, I actually bought this juicer before I read the reviews for this one (Power Juicer Pro) and the other J.LaLanne juicers (Power Juicer, Power Juicer Deluxe). I had wanted one for at least 15 years and put if off due to the cost. So now I have one, and I love it! Like I wrote, I read the reviews after I paid for it already. But alot of the negative reviews were so terribly written and most of the people couldn't even spell - I mean like the word "vegetable"! So I dismissed most of them as uninformed or lacking. And sure enough! If you read the owner's booklet, and use the product properly, you will not have any problems with it. Here are my responses to some of the problems listed by other reviews (this includes all J.LaLanne Power Juicer models):

"Strainer is plastic on the 'Pro'" - No, it isn't. Maybe it used to be when this review was written (?).

"I made 2 quarts of juice, then my juicer started leaking out the sides" - uhm, again if you read the booklet, you should only be making a couple of glasses at a time - one quart max. - then you will need to clean the strainer as the pulp will clog up the strainer and cause juice to back up into the machine. This juicer is not designed to hold liquid.

"The motor shaft sheared off when I tightened the blade onto it". The booklet states to be careful when tightening on the blade as this can cause the shaft to shear. This may be a legitimate problem with the product and this shaft ShouLD be metal, not plastic. So far, I have had no problems, and am very careful not to tighten too hard.

"I put in radishes and they blew out the pulp chute". The booklet states to follow small items immediately with larger ones to keep this from happening. I have not had a problem with small items such as radishes.

"The spout leaks all over the place". Again, I have had no problems with the spout.

"It is hard to clean and the little brush they give you does nothing". This product is EXTREMELY easy to clean. The brush works very well on the strainer. A power water sprayer also works wonders. Additional advice is to clean right after juicing, or right after you enjoy your juice. Naturally, if you let the juicer sit uncleaned, the pulp and juice residue will get dry and hard and be difficult to get off. If you clean it right away, it is a breeze and shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to clean the five pieces.

This juicer also comes with two juice recipe books and one juice and pulp recipe book (muffins, soups, and such).

Back to Basics Wheat Grass Juicer Review

This juicer is extremely adept at extracting juice from wheatgrass, celery, grapes (who knew making your own grape juice was SOOOO good), and all manner of other vegetables. In the case of wheatgrass, it is remarkably easy to crank. It sometimes takes some extra effort, but it is still quite easy. There are two things that have made this product a little less than perfect. One, you have to find a low cup. There was hardly any room underneath for anything we had in the manner of bowls. We eventually found a orange juicer, you know the ones made of glass with the mountain looking thing in the middle, that works good, plus it has a spout, so it is easy to pour. Two. Putting the thing together is difficult to figure out. The screen doesn't like to fit right, we got it in good a couple of times, except for once. Apparently it wasn't in right, becuase the screw was pressing on it and bent the little lip a bit. Everything works fine still, except it makes a scraping sound. But it was kind of stupid that they wouldn't make it easy to assemble every time. But other than those two problems, they probably wouldn't even be problems for someone who has a little more paticience than I do, it is a very good juicer. WAY better than any electric ones that I have tried. It also cleans really easy. It just takes a rinse, and sometimes a little rubbing to get the pulp out of the screen. I would prabably give it a 4.5 if I could. It isn't quite 5 worthy.

Hamilton Beach Health Smart Juicer Review

I brought this on my self. I knew I shouldn't have bought this juicer, but the price was good and I was curious about how it would work (since no one on any of the sites I went on rated this), plus I am a first time juicer. Well, the first time I used it, the "juice" was a little thick, so of course I thought I did something wrong (maybe I should've added the orange last?). I juiced again tonight, and as the apple was coming out, there was no juice, but a thick white goop, the carrots came out okay. Again, the end product was a thick drink. Not impressed. The chute size is so-so, and it sounds like a hand vac. I didn't think there'd be that much negative things to say about this machine, but low and behold!

Why are there any stars at all?? Reasons: it introduced me to juicing (gotta start somewhere, might as well be the bottom goin' up!), it wasn't that hard to wash, and the machine was not stained after putting carrots through.

p.s. I'm keeping it b/c I despise having to wait in line to return anything, and this time of year is havoc (a week b/4 Xmas!)!
