Vita-Mix 1321 Professional Series, Ruby Review

Vita-Mix 1321 Professional Series, RubyI guess my husband got tired of me showing this to him and asking him to guess how much it costs because I got one for my birthday!I looked at this blender for over two years trying to justify buying it, after all it is just a blender, or so I thought.

This thing is phenomenal to say the least.I use it every day to make whole food vegetable drinks and fruit smoothies all in a minute or less. There is no struggling, no stray pieces of ice or fruit, and no fear that it's going to burn out like my other blenders did from the strain of trying to blend ice and frozen fruit over a period of time.I wouldn't have dreamed of putting cucumbers, carrots or broccoli in my old blender to make something drinkable but with this, everything is blended to a perfect consistency. You can even put whole ice cubes in it.

Want some hot tomato soup?Fine just put the ingredients and let it whir until the soup is piping hot!The blender is so powerful that the friction created actually heats the food. You can shorten the cooking time by preheating any liquids that are included in your recipe.

My Vita-Mix came with an extra container and blade that are used for grinding, a Whole Food Recipe cookbook (full of delicious recipes), a step by step Getting Started guide, a tamper, and a video. It does seem like a lot to spend for a blender but it's such a versatile product that it's well worth the money. You can use it to make dips and spreads, beverages, soups, sauces, fondues, salad dressings, batters, pureed foods, frozen desserts, and if you have the dry container and blade, you can grind your own grains.

If you are interested in including more fruits and vegetables into your diet, or want to get your kids to get more fruit and veggies, this is the way to go.Before I got this, I probably used my old blender to make smoothies once or twice a week. Now I use it daily so I leave it sitting on the counter, and it takes no time at all to make a quick breakfast drink before I go to work or a refreshing fruit smoothie drink when I come home. I'm not one to sit around nibbling on carrots and celery, but I will put them in the Vita-Mix for a refreshing low-calorie drink. There's a recipe in the cookbook using carrots that's truly delicious, Citrus Carrot Cocktail.I have never craved carrots but I do crave this drink and make it a lot!

Cleaning the container is easy.Just rinse it out with hot water or put a drop of dishwashing liquid in it along with a cup or so of water and run the machine on high for a few seconds and rinse it out. The container is made from polycarbonate material which apparently does not do well with the high Ph balance of automatic dishwasher soap so the manufacturer does not recommend washing the container in the dishwasher.

I looked at a couple of other high end blenders and found that some of them had a tendency to "walk" on the counter. This one has four thick rubber feet that keeps it in place when switching the blender to high. It's very loud but then it's very powerful. So powerful in fact, that it comes with a lid and lid plug that lock into place because once it's switched to high, the ingredients are moved with such force that it can knock a loose lid off of the container. The lid plug must always be used unless using the tamper in its place to make ice cream and nut butters.

To get the most out of this blender, make sure you read the instructions in the owner's manual and use the recipes in the cookbook until you get comfortable with using it.It's not complicated to use but it's extremly powerful and it's easy to over process your food items. For instance, if you're making a smoothie, the longer the machine runs, the hotter the ingredients will get and you could wind up with a lukewarm smoothie.

Consider adding the Tovolo ice pop molds as an accessory item to enjoy your favorite juice drink as an icy treat! Tovolo Green Shooting Star Pop Molds

Samson GB-9001 Juice Extractor Review

Samson GB-9001 Juice ExtractorI bought this juicer expecting it to out-perform my current machine. However, it's just too much trouble to assemble the screw and caps and cut up vegetables and feed them in the hopper and plunge them in, slowly. With my old high speed blender that I use for carrot juices, it's simply amatter of pushing whole carrots into the top slot. Then open and clean out.Takes a minute. In sum, I would say this Samson machine may be useful for something, to someone. But please, if only I could have tried it out first.

Professional Series JCR 700-Watt 2-Speed Juice Extractor Review

Professional Series JCR 700-Watt 2-Speed Juice ExtractorI purchased this juicer first. Used once, had to send off to the manufacture for repairs as the switch burn out. The 700 watt didn't seem to have enough power to handle juicing. The juicer was noisy, jumped around on the counter when feeding the fruit, veggies in the shute. The only good thing about this was the juice glasses

Vita-Mix 1319 Professional Series, Onyx Review

Vita-Mix 1319 Professional Series, OnyxThis blender beats the competition by a mile. There are several things that set it apart besides the power and design, which allows perfectly smooth smoothies, sauces and soups if you want them that way.I reviewed a previous model that is no longer available and notice there's a new model out that doesn't have the middle knob. While you'd still get the easy cleanup, power and reliability of the Vita-Mix, that knob (which is on this model) is something I really value because it allows you to change the speed by infinite degrees during processing.

I find this particularly important when processing hot liquids as you can get a wet 'explosion' if you try to start a blending process too fast, which causes the heat to suddenly expand the contents. I did this once with my small personal blender--bad idea. With this Vita-mix model, you can start at a very low speed and turn the speed up gradually to high.Starting at a slow speed also gets larger items broken up so a good flow can be established to the blending process sooner.I've found the speed control greatly enhances the ability to get the results I want, including dicing small quantities instead of pureeing them, if needed.

I've had my unit for years and have never had any problems. It's a great machine. It gets most any job done just the way you want it.It's no wonder professional chefs choose Vita-Mix over others.Highly recommended.

Champion Household Juicer (International Australian Model) Review

Champion Household JuicerI first used this juicer when I worked at a high end restaurant, we used it all the time.It can make peanut and other nut butters as well as juice about anything.I purchased one for home around 10 years ago and it is still going strong.I take it to my kids day care and push peeled frozen bananas through it for some of the best home made instant "ice cream" you can find (all the kids love it and it is cool to watch and participate). This also works great for frozen peaches - amazing stuff that everyone likes and is great for you.I generally juice fruits like carrots and apples as well as nuts and the above frozen fruits. It has a magnetic safety interlock where the motor with the "masticator" part will not turn on unless the housing is attached. All the parts are sturdy and the motor is more than adequate.

It takes about 7 min. to clean depending on the material, nut butters don't rinse right off like vegetables.

There is a screen that allows the juice to flow through, and it does not seem to clog with prolonged use.If you take the screen out and put in the solid plate it will then grind up things like nut butters and frozen fruit. This can produce minor drips around the plate which is the only real down side.A little expensive but I figure it will be inherited.

Jack LaLanne's JLPJB Juicer, Power Review

Jack LaLanne's JLPJB Juicer, PowerPros:
- Powerful juicer
- Comes with its own cleaning tools

Cons:
- Many parts that needs to be cleaned each time you use it
- Assembly is a bit cumbersome
- Loud

Juicers would be more practical if you have to make a lot of juice each time you use it. Just need to store the juice in the ref. Otherwise, if you only need to make a couple of glasses, all the hassle maybe not worth it. You have to assemble the equipment, then you have to clean it and store it back to its place in the shelves. Some parts of this juicer are also sharp and you must be careful handling them.

Recommended: Yes (with some trepidation)

The Model 4000 is stylish, durable, dependable, efficient and very easy to clean. It's no wonder this unit taking over the industry as the premiere "pulp ejector" style juicer. The operation of this machine is based on several industry leading designs. Motor: The 1/3 Horsepower 5200-RpmPermanent Magnet Motor is the most efficient motor you'll find in a juicer. That equates to less energy consumed every time you juice. This motor has tested so well we Omega is backing it with a 15-year warranty. Surgical Stainless Steel: The metal parts are all comprised of Surgical Stainless Steel. All of the Stainless Steel parts are either polished or sandblasted for functionality and attractiveness. Basket: Although pulp ejector baskets do not need precision balancing, it is necessary to have it as balanced as possible. One of the most common problems with the cheaper imported pulp ejectors is that the pulp sticks in the basket and makes the unit vibrate. We have found the perfect speed (Rpm's), mesh size, and basket dimensions (angle, diameter, and clearance) to give you the most juice from this style juicer. The Basket is very open so it is easy to clean. Blade: This 1/2 lb. Stainless Steel Blade efficiently pulverizes fruits and vegetables to effectively extract the maximum amount of juice from a pulp ejector style juicer. When you hold the blade you'll appreciate its weight knowing how durable it will be. Our blade alone outweighs the blade and basket of many other juicers. Tristar JLPJB Jack LaLanne Power Juicer Review

Tristar JLPJB Jack LaLanne Power JuicerThis juicer is one of the worst juicers I've ever used.Don't be fooled by the claims made during the infomercial. This juicer barely has the ability to shred the produce fed into it, much less efficiently extract the any juice from the pulp.Worst of all, it is actually dangerous to use.It all comes down to poor design.

The primary flaw with this juicer is that the feed tube directs its contents into the center of the shredding blade where it spins the slowest. To make matters worse, the teeth at the center of the shredding blade are arranged in the same circular path. This tooth arrangement fails to generate any shredding action between the blades, and only grinds circular groves in the produce. Thus, the produce tends feed very slowly, or actually stalls in the grind tube. This slowed feeding action also seems to cause the centrifuge basket to slow down, and clog up.I'm not exactly sure why this happens, but I suspect it may have something to do with the produce binding between the bottom edge of the feed tube and the center of the shredding blade.Obviously, once the centrifuge basket gets clogged, less juice is extracted, the pulp is wetter, and more juice ends up in the pulp receptacle.

The second flaw is that the pulp is only discharged into the pulp receptacle from one side of the shredding /centrifuge chamber. This tends to cause the pulp to linger in the centrifuge basket, and compounds the clogging problem. Once the centrifuge basket gets clogged, the pulp begins to stick to the inside of the shredding /centrifuge chamber, and eventually seems to make its way into the juice catch basin.

The third flaw is that juice catch basin is flat on the bottom, and does not drain well.Pulp particles in the juice tend to settle on the bottom the juice catch basin, and eventually may stop the juice from draining. When this occurs, juice will flow over the inside lip of the juice catch basin, and stream down the motor housing.Wait; it gets worse!Since the motor's cooling vents are on the sides of the motor housing directly below the juice catch basin, juice escaping from the juice catch basin tends to flow into the motor housing through the cooling vents creating an electrical hazard.

Not flaws, but worth mentioning:
When the juice catch basin is installed, and the shredding blade spun onto the drive shaft before the centrifuge basket is installed, it will be very difficult to uninstall the shredding blade because there is no way to stop the drive shaft from rotating.

Since the feed tube is located in close proximity to the drain spout

American Moline 104 Pulp Ejecting Stainless Steel Centrifigal Juicer Review

American Moline 104 Pulp Ejecting Stainless Steel Centrifigal JuicerThis juicer is NOT correctly described. After unsuccessfully trying to reach the warranty department (literally a week's effort, numeours phone calls (some phone numbers were disconnected, one number was already used by another business - auto repair of sorts), I found out that Moline went out of business about five years ago. The claim to 15 years warranty is, therefore, FALSE. I have contacted Amazon and asked them to correct this item description. It's a shame that a seller allowed this to happen.

Jack LaLanne Power Juicer Pro Review

Jack LaLanne Power Juicer ProOk, I actually bought this juicer before I read the reviews for this one (Power Juicer Pro) and the other J.LaLanne juicers (Power Juicer, Power Juicer Deluxe). I had wanted one for at least 15 years and put if off due to the cost. So now I have one, and I love it! Like I wrote, I read the reviews after I paid for it already. But alot of the negative reviews were so terribly written and most of the people couldn't even spell - I mean like the word "vegetable"! So I dismissed most of them as uninformed or lacking. And sure enough! If you read the owner's booklet, and use the product properly, you will not have any problems with it. Here are my responses to some of the problems listed by other reviews (this includes all J.LaLanne Power Juicer models):

"Strainer is plastic on the 'Pro'" - No, it isn't. Maybe it used to be when this review was written (?).

"I made 2 quarts of juice, then my juicer started leaking out the sides" - uhm, again if you read the booklet, you should only be making a couple of glasses at a time - one quart max. - then you will need to clean the strainer as the pulp will clog up the strainer and cause juice to back up into the machine. This juicer is not designed to hold liquid.

"The motor shaft sheared off when I tightened the blade onto it". The booklet states to be careful when tightening on the blade as this can cause the shaft to shear. This may be a legitimate problem with the product and this shaft ShouLD be metal, not plastic. So far, I have had no problems, and am very careful not to tighten too hard.

"I put in radishes and they blew out the pulp chute". The booklet states to follow small items immediately with larger ones to keep this from happening. I have not had a problem with small items such as radishes.

"The spout leaks all over the place". Again, I have had no problems with the spout.

"It is hard to clean and the little brush they give you does nothing". This product is EXTREMELY easy to clean. The brush works very well on the strainer. A power water sprayer also works wonders. Additional advice is to clean right after juicing, or right after you enjoy your juice. Naturally, if you let the juicer sit uncleaned, the pulp and juice residue will get dry and hard and be difficult to get off. If you clean it right away, it is a breeze and shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to clean the five pieces.

This juicer also comes with two juice recipe books and one juice and pulp recipe book (muffins, soups, and such).

Champion Juicer G5-NG853S-ALMOND Household Juicer Review

Champion Juicer G5-NG853S-ALMOND Household JuicerI got my Champion Juicer about 15 years ago, and LOVED it. It is a well made and versatile workhorse that does everything from grinding grain to making peanut butter. However do not be fooled by the new machines. They look the same, but the interior configuration is different. It does not work the way it is supposed to, and the company doesn't care.

Several years after I got my juicer, my mother-in-law wanted to get a better juicer than the centrifigual one she already had. Upon MY advice, she gave away her old, reliable juicer and bought a Champion. I was shocked that the motor sounded loose and rattly, and the pulp came out wet and drippy. Hardly any juice came out. It was obviously a piece of junk that was either broken, or poor quality, or both.

I called Whole Foods, where it was purchased, and they said that they did not offer any warranties on their juicers. They advised me to contact Champion directly. When I called the Champion company, the person who answered the phone was rude and defensive. She said that they had "upgraded" the unit, and that the noise simply reflected the "better" motor. She flatly denied that the machine could possibly be defective, and she said that the company policy does not allow refunds. She claimed that we must be doing something wrong - it didn't matter that I already owned one and knew how it was supposed to work. My only choice was to ship this extremely heavy machine back to California (AT MY OWN EXPENSE), or accept it as is!

So my unfortunate mother-in-law had given away her good juicer, and was stuck with one that barely worked. It languished in her cupboard for a long time, unused. Now, several years later, she is caring for a sick family member, and desperately needs fresh juice. We lugged it out, thinking that it was better than nothing, but when we plugged it in today, it wouldn't even turn on. The machine is totally dead, and she did not even get a single full glass of juice from it! Of course, the company claims that "nothing is wrong with the machine".

My suggestion is that if you want a good juicer, buy an Omega, or purchase a used Champion that is more than 15 years old.

Breville Juice Fountain Plus - JE95XL Review

Breville Juice Fountain Plus - JE95XLThumbs up:
I really like this machine.i used the HECK out of it.It is fast, easy to clean, and the two speed function is nice. The price is a nice place to start juicing. I like the wide mouth for apples and larger veggies. it is great for small juicing.

Thumbs down:
It is not great for more juice than about 20 oz without cleaning. Many juice fasts call for about 30 oz of juice. It gets clogged and pulpy very fast.I sometimes have to run the pulp in to the machine again. The price is ok but the Sharper Image juicer is about $75 and it has the same functionality with a little less of a motor.I use this product a lot for 3 months - about 2 times a day.I have now upgraded to a champion commercial juicer for about $250.The Champion was recommended before I got this juicer.
Not a bad starter juicer.Maybe try to pay the money and get a better model.

Product Description:
Equipped with a powerful 800-watt motor, this juice extractor makes it easy to access all the nutrients and great taste from fresh fruits and vegetables. Choose from two speed settings--low speed for juicing soft fruits and vegetables like oranges, melons, grapes, and fresh summer berries or high speed for harder produce like carrots, celery, cabbage, and beets. It also provides a "pulse" function for controlled bursts of power. The unit's 3-inch-wide food chute with a pusher accommodates large pieces of produce, while its generous 1-quart-capacity juice jug makes it possible to create large batches for the whole family to enjoy. Simply add produce through the feed tube, flip on the power switch, and it takes care of the rest, dispensing juice through the side spout into the included juice jug or other container. Pulp and seeds eject automatically into a separate 2-quart pulp bin for quick disposal or composting, or, better yet, for adding to sauces, soups, salsa, jams, cakes, and more. The appliance also provides a blender attachment with a 1.9-quart glass blending jar for mixing up frozen drinks, fruit smoothies, milkshakes, and more. The blending jar comes with an easy-grip handle, a secure-fitting lid, and a nondrip spout for graceful serving. Other highlights include a built-in safety lock, non-slip feet, cord storage, and dishwasher-safe parts for convenient cleanup. Attractively housed in stainless steel, the juice extractor measures approximately 12 by 10 by 18 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Waring Pro JEX328PK 400-Watt Juice Extractor, Pink Review

Waring Pro JEX328PK 400-Watt Juice Extractor, PinkI've had this juicer for about six months and I like it. Love the pink color with the stainless. It's very easy to take apart and clean. There are a couple of issues - the filter is very hard to clean - little strings get caught in the tiny hole and it takes some patience to get them clean with the little brush. The reservoir for the fruit/veg bits it small and gets filled up fast. You just need to clear it out if you use more than five or six whole fruit (I used apples and carrots). Otherwise it's a great juicer and goes very well with my pink kitchen.

Green Star GS-1000 Juice Extractor Review

Green Star GS-1000 Juice ExtractorI've been juicing since the early 1990s and more recently, as a certified raw foods associate chef, have been preparing a wider range of juicer recipes including pates and ice cream from frozen bananas.I have experience with Green Star, Champion, Juiceman, and several other juicers, and have read quite a bit about various models of juicers. If you are going to be juicing a lot of greens such as kale and parsley, the Green Star will give you a better and more nutritious yield than any juicer on the market. It far exceeds masticating juicers such as the Champion in this regard, as well as centrifugal juicers such as theJuiceman.A huge benefit of Green Star is that it juices wheat grass, so you will not need a dedicated wheat grass juicer. It's also amazingly quiet, far quieter (and a bit slower) than my Champion. And like the Champion, it does a great job with pates, frozen ice cream, and other recipes requiring a homogenizing blade, also known as a "blank."With a slower speed, the juice does not heat up as much as with a Champion and oxidizes slower.

So is there a catch?Yes.There are far more parts to assemble, disassemble, and clean than with a Champion.I'm reminded of the time when my brother was a child, he asked to borrow my father's watch, and my father said, "sure."A few days later, my father wanted his watch back, and entered my brothers room to find a bazillion little pieces on the floor:gears, springs, etc.My brother explained that he wanted the watch so he could take it apart, but not to worry he said, "I'll put it back together."My father said, "don't worry about it, you can keep the watch."When I take apart a Green Star juicer, I always think of this story because it has so many more parts than a Champion.(Although fortunately, the Green Star is far easier to assemble and disassemble than an analog watch.:-)At the Living Light Culinary Institute where I trained as a raw foods chef, when we made pates and banana ice cream, we always reached for the Champion, not the Green Star.

In deciding whether to purchase a Green Star juicer, consider whether you are going to be juicing a lot of greens and/or wheatgrass, and whether you're really going to take the time to disassemble, clean, and assemble about a dozen parts each time you use it.If you're not put off by that, then I highly recommend the Green Star.If you are mostly considering a juicer for carrot juice, fruit juices, banana ice cream and pates, then I would steer you towards the Champion. If you want to use a juicer for all of the above and can afford and have the space for both, then I enthusiastically recommend both.

Note that there are 3 models of Green Star juicers, of which the GS1000 is their most basic model. The GreenStar.com website explains the various accessories that come with or can be purchased with each.Accessories such as pasta makers and mochi makers are available for purchase with the GS1000, but are included with the GS3000.

L'Equip 110.5 Grey Mini Pulp Ejection Juicer Review

L'Equip 110.5 Grey Mini Pulp Ejection JuicerAn excellent juicer, has more power than any I could find in this price range. The motor does not wind down, all the pulp is ejected into the back container providing clean juice! I compared 6 juicers to this one and none could compare to its power. No problems with this at all since I purchased it and I use it every day. I like the stainless steel top where the extractor fits over, most other Juicers have plastic. This juicer is fast, fairly quiet, and in quality and power, it compares to juicers in the $300+ range. It is very easy to clean and operate. You can't go wrong with this at its price!

Designed by people who juice for people who juice, the Model 110.5 L'Equip Mini Juicer/Pulp Ejector will give you the results you expect from a top quality juicer at a much more affordable price. Forget containers full of foam, this is one appliance that's designed for quantity and quality, with results that are virtually free from foam, as pulp is ejected through the rear of the juicer. A computer-controlled motor monitors the speed of the cutter blade, automatically sending out more or less power as needed. The pulp receptacle is ample and a large feeder tube accommodates more veggies and fruit than most juicers. A unique bag clamping system holds any plastic bag in place for ejected pulp. User friendly with no clogging and no foam, it's compact in size (only 11.5-in. high) so it fits perfectly on most kitchen countertops. It's the juicer that provides the most power and highest efficiency (600 watts and 10,000 RPMs) than any other juicer in its class. Comes with a 6-year guarantee.
