Vita-Mix 1321 Professional Series, Ruby Review

Vita-Mix 1321 Professional Series, RubyI guess my husband got tired of me showing this to him and asking him to guess how much it costs because I got one for my birthday!I looked at this blender for over two years trying to justify buying it, after all it is just a blender, or so I thought.

This thing is phenomenal to say the least.I use it every day to make whole food vegetable drinks and fruit smoothies all in a minute or less. There is no struggling, no stray pieces of ice or fruit, and no fear that it's going to burn out like my other blenders did from the strain of trying to blend ice and frozen fruit over a period of time.I wouldn't have dreamed of putting cucumbers, carrots or broccoli in my old blender to make something drinkable but with this, everything is blended to a perfect consistency. You can even put whole ice cubes in it.

Want some hot tomato soup?Fine just put the ingredients and let it whir until the soup is piping hot!The blender is so powerful that the friction created actually heats the food. You can shorten the cooking time by preheating any liquids that are included in your recipe.

My Vita-Mix came with an extra container and blade that are used for grinding, a Whole Food Recipe cookbook (full of delicious recipes), a step by step Getting Started guide, a tamper, and a video. It does seem like a lot to spend for a blender but it's such a versatile product that it's well worth the money. You can use it to make dips and spreads, beverages, soups, sauces, fondues, salad dressings, batters, pureed foods, frozen desserts, and if you have the dry container and blade, you can grind your own grains.

If you are interested in including more fruits and vegetables into your diet, or want to get your kids to get more fruit and veggies, this is the way to go.Before I got this, I probably used my old blender to make smoothies once or twice a week. Now I use it daily so I leave it sitting on the counter, and it takes no time at all to make a quick breakfast drink before I go to work or a refreshing fruit smoothie drink when I come home. I'm not one to sit around nibbling on carrots and celery, but I will put them in the Vita-Mix for a refreshing low-calorie drink. There's a recipe in the cookbook using carrots that's truly delicious, Citrus Carrot Cocktail.I have never craved carrots but I do crave this drink and make it a lot!

Cleaning the container is easy.Just rinse it out with hot water or put a drop of dishwashing liquid in it along with a cup or so of water and run the machine on high for a few seconds and rinse it out. The container is made from polycarbonate material which apparently does not do well with the high Ph balance of automatic dishwasher soap so the manufacturer does not recommend washing the container in the dishwasher.

I looked at a couple of other high end blenders and found that some of them had a tendency to "walk" on the counter. This one has four thick rubber feet that keeps it in place when switching the blender to high. It's very loud but then it's very powerful. So powerful in fact, that it comes with a lid and lid plug that lock into place because once it's switched to high, the ingredients are moved with such force that it can knock a loose lid off of the container. The lid plug must always be used unless using the tamper in its place to make ice cream and nut butters.

To get the most out of this blender, make sure you read the instructions in the owner's manual and use the recipes in the cookbook until you get comfortable with using it.It's not complicated to use but it's extremly powerful and it's easy to over process your food items. For instance, if you're making a smoothie, the longer the machine runs, the hotter the ingredients will get and you could wind up with a lukewarm smoothie.

Consider adding the Tovolo ice pop molds as an accessory item to enjoy your favorite juice drink as an icy treat! Tovolo Green Shooting Star Pop Molds

Back to Basics Smoothie Splash Smoothie Maker Review

Back to Basics Smoothie Splash Smoothie MakerI used the Back To Basics Smoothie Splash for just over a year. The advantage over a regular blender is twofold:The stir stick which helps get your chunks down into the blades, and the pour spout. The spout handle broke early on, so the spout couldn't be used (teeny piece of plastic held it together). After 15 months of occasional use, the motor quit, and there is no apparent reset. It quit during moderate use, not abuse.(As the firstborn son of an electrician, I know not to abuse electrics.)

It did a nice job of chopping up my ingredients. You need to run the motor to get the smoothie out through the spout, unless it's really thin.If you want to try the smoothie concept, this should last long enough to get you hooked. If you want to make lots of smoothies, use a good blender or a sturdier smoothie machine.

Vita-Mix 1320 Professional Series, Platinum Review

Vita-Mix 1320 Professional Series, PlatinumMy wife and I have two Vita-Mix blenders. We bought one at a fair 6 years ago, and picked up a new-in-the-box commercial model at an auction about 3 years ago.We have used both heavily.Vita-Mix blenders are tall (too tall to fit under typical kitchen cabinets), heavy, loud, and very, very effective.Like most, we've burned through any number of typical home blenders. The Vita-Mix blenders last.

Customer service is superb. We've had exactly one problem - the variable speed dial got really difficult to turn. With about two weeks go to on the original 5-year warranty (warranties have changed since - they're longer now), Vita-Mix fixed the base, including paying shipping both ways, and also told us to send along the container so they could make sure it was in good shape - and then replaced the blade for us.

Vita-Mix blenders come with a tamper, and a lid designed to take the tamper. Most of the time you don't need it.It comes in handy for very thick, very cold blends, like thick smoothies, ice cream, etc.You will absolutely, positively need to have a tamper - or stop and use a scraper - with ANY blender, no matter how powerful, the shape of the container, or configuration of the blades."Tamper" is actually something of a misnomer. While it is used to tamp at times, it actually changes the mixing dynamics by effectively taking up part of the volume at the center of the container, eliminating cavitation in mixes where that's helpful.

The Vita-Mix base units are heavy because they use heavy-duty motors.Don't be taken in by competing companies' horsepower claims with lighter-duty motors with half the weight. The competitors hit higher horsepower ratings by running their motors at higher speeds. All blender motors run fast, of course, and bumping up the horsepower by pulling more amps this way can be appropriate for some motor applications, but you can't consider one factor in a vacuum. The Vita-Mix motors are heavy, and heavy motors last longer by using heavier cores and windings, both of which make the motor stand up longer to heavy use and heat without breaking down.Vita-Mix containers also employ a heavy flywheel below the blades. That, in conjunction with the heavier-duty motor, is what gives you longevity, and the ability to chop heavy stuff for years. If you look at the motor-to-container connector, you will also see that the Vita-Mix uses a larger diameter connector - less stress, more life, and lower possibility of stripping.

I do wish they were quieter, but the competitors are in the same ballpark, claims to the contrary notwithstanding. The height can be dealt with by simply storing the container away from the base (which we leave on the countertop). My only real complaint is the cost of extra containers.I'd love one of the 32oz containers, but think $100-$120(typical price at a fair)is too much.

Vita-Mix 1319 Professional Series, Onyx Review

Vita-Mix 1319 Professional Series, OnyxThis blender beats the competition by a mile. There are several things that set it apart besides the power and design, which allows perfectly smooth smoothies, sauces and soups if you want them that way.I reviewed a previous model that is no longer available and notice there's a new model out that doesn't have the middle knob. While you'd still get the easy cleanup, power and reliability of the Vita-Mix, that knob (which is on this model) is something I really value because it allows you to change the speed by infinite degrees during processing.

I find this particularly important when processing hot liquids as you can get a wet 'explosion' if you try to start a blending process too fast, which causes the heat to suddenly expand the contents. I did this once with my small personal blender--bad idea. With this Vita-mix model, you can start at a very low speed and turn the speed up gradually to high.Starting at a slow speed also gets larger items broken up so a good flow can be established to the blending process sooner.I've found the speed control greatly enhances the ability to get the results I want, including dicing small quantities instead of pureeing them, if needed.

I've had my unit for years and have never had any problems. It's a great machine. It gets most any job done just the way you want it.It's no wonder professional chefs choose Vita-Mix over others.Highly recommended.

Waring HPB300 MegaMix Commercial Blender, Brushed Steel Review

Waring HPB300 MegaMix Commercial Blender, Brushed SteelI bought this to replace a Kitchen Aid.
The Kitchen Aid uses a coupler on top of the motor which spins the blade that's made out of rubber over metal which will break if you make lots of frozen fruit drinks. That's what I had happen.
The Waring uses the same type of design, but the difference is that you can buy a replacement ($5.95) and put it on yourself with a wrench If it were to ever come apart. The Kitchen Aid has to be serviced, take apart the motor to get to it from the inside etc.
This Waring Blender is very powerful! It's loud and spins very fast. Which makes it blend in a fraction of the time of others. It makes my old Kitchen-Aid seem like a childs toy in comparison.
It's much more obviously commercial through heft, simplicity of design and function and servicability.
It has only 2 speeds. Professional chefs say that's all you need. it has a simple toggle switch, no multiple speed electronic gimmics. Just very functional.
I originally really wanted a glass container. It provided some heft to my old Kitchen-Aid and I thought that it was a sign of higher quality.
For a commercial application you would prefer the unbreakable quality of the polycarbon plastic as well as the lack of weight. It's light as a feather.
I was also concerned that the blade being permenantly mounted inside the container would be hard to clean. (actually you can take it apart with a deep socket and extension, not for cleaning but blade replacement). My Kitchen Aids came apart for cleaning and I could put it in the dishwasher. I find the cleaning instruction are easy with the Waring, actually simple to clean you should just do it right away once your done mixing. Less time to clean and assemble.
What I see now with comparing this to the kitchen-Aid besides what I've already mentioned, is that the Kitchen-Aid looks simple through it's visual design. It's over designed through what appear to be valuable features which only make it more complicated. You have to do more work from cleaning, assembling and servicing.
The Waring on the other hand is bare bones functional. It was designed to blend and be easily serviced and quickly cleaned.

Jack LaLanne Health Master 100 Blender Review

Jack LaLanne Health Master 100 BlenderThis will have to be short and sweet due to limited time but I had to offer my opinion.
I have been looking for a whole food/ raw food blender for about a month.I have already returned 3 blenders to other stores, as eating whole foods and raw foods require more power then your typical walmart/ kmart blender can offer. The Bullet was a joke. The cuisinart, such a disappointment.
First, I must say that I am a bargain shopper.Although I do love high end quality, I very rarely pay top dollar for anything. If I can buy a top quality item used, I will.A Vitamix blender would have been the ideal for me, but I simply wasnt willing to lay down 400-500 dollars.Nor was I about to even go used on it, which would have run me about 250.00.Call me cheap, but I knew there had to be something out there that at least came close to it.
I happened upon the Healhmaster 100 online.I compared the wattage, horse power, and style (with tamper) to its rival, the Vitamix.Mind you of course, if I was a wealthy person and money was no object, I would be writing a review of a vitamix right now. But, since I already spent so much money on a grain mill, Bosch mixer and other neccessities I was forced to bargain shop.
I am NOT sorry. This machine is awesome and does not struggle as the others did.I can make frozen fruit ice cream with no problem and no stuggles.Within a minute or two, I was enjoying creamy fresh fruit ice cream. This is a big deal for me, as I have been trying to make this particular recipe for about a month with no success. The other blenders struggled and could not achieve the creamy texture I wanted.I had to continually turn them off, use a wooden spoon to push the mixture down and pulse again for only a second, then turn it off again. This went on and on and took forever.
For the money, the HM 100 is a powerful machine that can handle very challanging raw food recipes.I have seen the vitamix being used at a raw food class, and the HM100 compares in style and power.
I hope this review helps other indecisive consumers who are looking for a less expensive option to something like the Vitamix.
If you looking for a high end blender with a lower end price tag, you might want to consider trying this out.
UPDATE:I have been using this machine for 1 month on mostly raw style recipes, green smoothies, hummus and nut butters and so on.I am so happy with it.It has completely and soundly completed any task I have stuffed it with!!
ANOTHER UPDATE:Still kicking butt!!I have had no problems with leakage, as others say they have.Hope I never do.I have used this machine almost daily for 4-5 months, making many raw recipes and green smoothies.IT STILL ROCKS!!

Vita-Mix 1300 TurboBlend 4500 Review

Vita-Mix 1300 TurboBlend 4500I have owned the Vita-Mix Super 5000 since 1997, and I love it. I can grind flour, make juice, soup, ice cream (the fruit smoothies I make with this are to die for)--in short, every kind of food processing you can imagine. This baby is built to last and has a 7-year warranty.

In 2004, a couple weeks after the 7 years were up, I was very upset when it broke down. I thought, "Isn't that just the way these things tend to go with warranties?" I searched for Vita-Mix on the web (the URL is their name, and there is a link on this page, to them, too). I clicked on the button for service, got their 800 number, and called them at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time, and they were there. The service rep was friendly and knowledgeable. She asked me to describe in detail the symptoms of my ailing Vita-Mix. She then said, when I asked about it, that even though I was past the window period to do so, the company would still allow me to buy a three-year extended warranty for $120. I jumped at that, and found out that I could use it to cover the parts (and shipping) to fix the problem. She said I needed an "assembly piece" that sold for $75 without a warranty, a "drive socket" worth $12.00 and the shipping of $9.95 would be no charge to me. She said she was including a small wrench and instructions and I can fix it myself. So right off the bat I used most of the $120 to fix my first problem.

I've never seen anything like this kind of service. When our tabletop water distiller broke, we had to send it in for warrantied repair, which cost $50 shipping (we paid), and weeks to get back. I think shipping the Vita-Mix to the company might have cost nearly that much, so I was delighted to have this option of getting the parts in 10 days to fix it myself and have my beloved Vita-Mix back working within a week and a half.

If you are ever in the market for a food processor that is professional quality that works great with amazing customer service, this is it. The price is very competitive for what you get, and the product itself is fabulous. (Only one tiny little caveat--which is true for =any= blender--wear earplugs when you do the very high speeds or you could hurt your ears.)

Update March 23, 2009: I've owned the Vita-Mix 12 years now, and I still love it! See my comment to this review with today's date which contains information on my experiences with the sales personnel of the Vita-Mix company today.

Vitamix Turbo Blend 4500 Countertop Blender with 2 HP Motor Review

Vitamix Turbo Blend 4500 Countertop Blender with 2+ HP MotorI have had my Vitamix 5000 for 5 and 1/2 years and could not be happier with it. Not only does it blend full frozen bananas (see other review), the powerful motor can do a lot more.

We use our Vitamix primarily for smoothies and milkshakes, and have learned that as long as there is some liquid in the container with the ice cubes and frozen bananas it will blend all into a smooth drink with ease.

The machine is loud for sure, not something you can hold conversation over, but we've noted that it blends so quickly, that the moments it takes to liquify are over before we've forgotten what we would have said anyway.

Clean up is also amazing with the Vitamix. As the Vitamix reps demonstrate, all we've done to clean it up after is wipe down any smoothie residue on the outside of the spout, fill container 1/3-ish of the way up with warm/hot water and a drip of soap, then blend on high for 30-ish seconds. Every month or so I DO wash a bit more thouroughly with maybe a drip of bleach and a scrub brush. One thing to consider though, is the longer you leave your container dirty the harder it will be to clean after. If you just rinse right away, you're golden.

I cannot rave more highly about this machine. I'm sure that the multiple hundred dollar price tag is a turn off to most if not all, but consider the time saved as well as more options for healthy beverage alternatives! We've loved our Vitamix and you will too!

The Bullet Express System (W/ Bonus Juicer Express) Review

The Bullet Express SystemI bought this because I love my Magic Bullet, however, this is definitely not the same quality. The juicer was ok, but the shredder shot my cabbage across the counter, til I found a really big bowl (it's a 2 man job in the infomercial). The third time I used the Bullet, I tried making some dough. The motor overheated after about a minute, then smoke poured out of the machine.I scraped out the dough and used my KitchenAid to finish the job (easily I might add). Fortunately the motor worked again after it cooled down. Check other sites you'll find this and other worse issues to be common problems - including poor customer service.Save your money. This product is not as advertised.

HealthMaster LWHM Living Well/Montel 1100-Watt 2-Quart Fruit-and-Vegetable Emulsifier Review

HealthMaster LWHM Living Well/Montel 1100-Watt 2-Quart Fruit-and-Vegetable EmulsifierUPDATE 3/19/2010:This unit has been out for awhile now, and the complaints are rising steadily, not only here at Amazon, but other sites as well.QVC lowered their price and negative reviews are appearing there as well. The complaints, that surface either immediately or within 6 months are:Leaking containers, motors that burn out emitting an electrical odor that sometimes will trip your circuit breakers, container lid is hard to remove and put back on, terrible customer service (from the healthmaster site and not amazon), and now, a poster said that the container is not safe to use because of the plastic, and will emit chemicals into your food! Please, do your research before purchasing this machine. There is even a video on the Vitamix website of a woman who went to her local TV station for help with getting her money back from healthmaster it showed how it took a very strong person to remove the lid, and the motor was fried! The TV station reporter was shown on hold for 20 minutes!

MY ORIGINAL REVIEW :This unit is a Jack La Lanne Healthmaster, redesigned with a new digital display, and costs more.I owned the Jack La Lanne, and within 6 months, the bearings stripped, and a rust color was dripping from the container, with the food being tainted by rust on the blades.I threw it out and bought a Vitamix. The same problems are beginning to surface with this machine problems develop either immediately or within 3 to 6 months of use.A neighbor, who loves Montel, and ignored my warnings, bought this machine through the healthmaster website.Within 3 days, the motor burnt out.It took several weeks to get a replacement.Upon receiving the replacement, the motor burnt out again. She returned the unit for a refund, and has yet to receive it. She paid for the extra warranty, and HM did not pay for the shipping to return it (the warranty is bogus, if you read the fine print, the warranty can be voided), YOU have to pay for it. This machine does what it is supposed to do, it makes good smoothies, but simply isn't powerful enough and cannot handle the strain.Other reviews on other sites state the same thing. The infomercial, has the same woman that was on the infomercial for jack la lanne. If you must, buy it here, the return policy is much better, however I recommend that you spend a few extra bucks and get a Vitamix, which I have had for several years now with absolutely no problems, and has a automatic 7 year guarantee, excellent customer service, and they pay for shipping. You get what you pay for.Give yourself, or your loved ones, a better machine than this, especially for xmas.

Product Description:
Equipped with an 1100-watt almost-2-horsepower motor, this fruit-and-vegetable emulsifier goes way beyond a standard countertop blender. What can't be done with the machine might be easier to mention, but without intending to overwhelm, here's a short list of what it can do: juice whole fruits and vegetables, make ice cream and frozen yogurt, simmer soup, create dips and salsas, blend fruit smoothies and milkshakes, grind nut butters, whisk salad dressings, melt chocolate and cheese, and puree party dips, or use it to grate cheese from coarse to fine, whip cream, mince garlic and herbs, mash potatoes, chop veggies, dice onions, cream butter, aerate egg whites for fluffy meringues, mix up drinks and cocktails, or crush up to 2 quarts of ice in seconds. The versatile appliance replaces 20 different kitchen appliances, including a blender, a mini chopper, a 10-inch cook's knife, a coffee and spice mill/grinder, a cheese/veggie grater, a juicer, a meat grinder, a snow-cone maker, an ice-cream maker, a smoothie maker, a soy milk maker, and a latte whip or other milk-frothing device--just to name a few. The kitchen appliance features a digital emulsification system that pulverizes and liquefies whole fruits and vegetables in seconds, and its centrifugal friction "cooks" foods naturally, retaining the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phyto-nutrients. Choose from a variety of one-touch controls, including eight variable speed settings. The machine also provides commercial-grade wet/dry culinary blades that never need replacing and an extra-large 70-ounce (2 quart) polycarbonate-plastic pitcher with measuring marks up the side, a generous easy-grip handle, a drip-free pouring spout, and a secure-fitting lid with a built-in safety valve that releases steam and pressure when making soup. For added safety, the unit must be properly assembled or it will not turn on; it will also turn off automatically to prevent overheating. Dishwasher-safe parts make cleanup a snap, and four bonus recipe books and a healthy eating plan come included. Endorsed by Montel Williams, the fruit-and-vegetable emulsifier measures 21 by 12-3/4 by 16-1/2 inches and carries a 60-day warranty with a 100-year warranty on the motor.
